Marcia McCall, vice president of First Citizens Bank in Morganton, smiles thinking about how much she can save on gas if she wins the moped being raffled by The Rotary Club of Burke-Sunrise. Six hundred tickets will be sold at $10 each to fund special trips to Washington D.C. for World War II veterans. Since the World War II Memorial was only opened to the public in 2004, most of our living veterans have not had the opportunity to visit 'their' memorial. The memorial honors the sacrifices of 16 million Americans who served in the Armed Forces and the more than 400,000 who died during World War II.The drawing will be held at CoMMA on Oct

Charlottesville police are about to start cracking down on mopeds. Since 2005, the city has required moped owners to register their vehicle with city hall. Almost no one does and police admit they really have not been enforcing the law -but that is about to change.
Lieutenant Gary Pleasants of the Charlottesville Police Department said, 'We've had such an increase in mopeds being stolen over the last six to eight months that we really need to crackdown on mopeds in general. Obviously people who own them legally will go ahead and register them.'
The city is kicking off an education campaign to alert moped users about the law. Police will start enforcing the law in November
